After the Troop receives your Eagle certificate back from the Scout Office, we will deliver the Eagle packet to the parent of the Scout, and the Eagle Court of Honor planning may begin. Each Eagle Scout and their parents plan their own Court of Honor to best suit their family’s needs. Below are the steps to planning the court of honor.
- Discuss with Troop possible dates; our Troop and Council calendar is planned annually after Summer Camp, and you do not want to interfere with a campout, school activity, or another holiday. Coordinate scheduling with Troop members who you wish to involve in your court of honor and get the date on the Troop calendar. Please allow at least 30-90 days’ notice of your Court of Honor date to allow everyone adequate opportunity to plan to attend.
- Book your venue. You will need to contact the Parish or Saint Francis Hills committee in advance to use those facilities.
- Send out Invitations. You may order these from the Scout Office, ScoutShop.org, or make your own. Remember, you may utilize your Scout Account balance for any Eagle Court of Honor supplies.
- Start working on your Court of Honor program. Every Court of Honor is different, so feel free to write your own. Here are some Websites with sample program scripts that you may use to get started.
- Obtain Eagle Ceremony Kit – Troop 22 has a tote with candles and supplies you may use for your Court of Honor however, sometimes, not everything makes it back to us intact. You should allow a week or two to inventory and supplement the ceremony kit with supplies of your own. You should coordinate with one of the adult leaders to pick up this kit and return it immediately following your Court of Honor. You may use the Troop’s flags and stands however, these are used regularly and may not be picked up until after our regular meeting before your court of honor.
- While it is not required, snacks to a complete meal may be hosted after the Court of Honor program. Also, some Scouts choose to have displays of photos and mementos from their Scouting career. It is completely up to you.
- After the Court-of-Honor, be sure to send thank-you notes for any gifts received or help given.
